Syndicated Radio Host Brad Mercer Features My Music Video!

With a fan base in more than 140 countries, I'm so stoked to be on Brad Mercer's Bands N Fans radio show this Saturday! Earlier this week, I skyped in to his studio, and he recorded an interview that will air this Saturday, October 29. He asked me all kinds of fun questions -- from my McDonald's Happy Meal days to my first encounter with country music. Behind the Scenes of the Official Music Video for COUNTIN' DOWN SUMMERTIME

The Countin' Down Summertime music video might only be 4 1/2 minutes long, but it took MONTHS of planning! I am blessed to have had the help of so many people to make this shoot come together.

From scouting the locations, to casting and filming, it was a D-I-Y team effort! i wrote Countin’ Down Summertime a few years back, and have since then dreamed of making a music video for it. As the script for the video started coming to life in my mind, I brought the ideas to my mom (who is my manager and also produced and directed the video), and for weeks we bounced ideas off of each other. We did some additional brainstorming with our friend Frank (who was the editor on this project) and Megan (a family friend and filmmaker in NY). And BAM! We came up with the perfect story line. From there, we went looking for a beautiful location that would be the ideal setting for a summer kickback in the country. We found a wooded area near a gorgeous lake just five minutes down the road in my neighborhood. And a family we never met allowed us to film at their gazebo. We also knew “timing” was key. The moon is a big part of this song, so we had to coordinate the shoot dates to match the time of the month when the moon would be big so that it would be visible on camera.

After those logistics had been solidified, it was crunch time! Many of my friends volunteered to help out and be "party goers" for the shoot; several line dance regulars from a local country bar came out to dance on set; a local off road company (Dirt Trenz) loaned us an awesome tricked out jeep; and a local boutique (Chic Boutique) dressed the set with gorgeous hand-made dreamcatchers. It took a total of four days to shoot all of the scenes! My dad (who owns a video production company) was the Director of Photography, and my little brother Nick and a couple of his friends were production assistants. It was definitely a group effort to make all the elements of the shoot come together.

COUNTRY THUNDER AZ

We just got back from performing at one of the biggest country music festivals in the US! THANK YOU to all the wonderful people who came to watch our set; loved getting to meet you after our show! Happy to have our new cajon player, Austin James, along for this show. We had sunny skies on Saturday afternoon when we played on the Jack Daniels Stage; it poured down rain the next day. After our show, we had a blast watching the other bands, including the headlining acts LOCASH, Cam, Chris Janson, and Jake Owen. My little brother/guitarist even got to have his picture taken with Chris Janson! We also got to hear my favorite country band -- Florida Georgia Line -- play on Friday night.

Alpine Neighbors Magazine Cover Story

After seeing the movie Model Behavior on Disney Channel as a little girl, it was a dream of mine to be on the cover of a magazine! Thanks to writer and photographer Jackie Lynn, that dream came true with the February issue of Alpine Neighbors Magazine. Jackie made the shoot extra special by making the trip out to my backyard (literally!) and taking photos in some of my favorite spots in Alpine where I grew up. It was so much fun to have my little brother Nick in the photo shoot as well! Click HERE to read the article on "a small town girl with big dreams."

Country at the Grand

I've always had a deep appreciation and respect for the men and women who sacrifice their time (and in many cases, their bodies and their lives) to serve our country. That's why I was so honored to be a part of 'Country at the Grand' in support of Homes for Our Troops. On January 23, The Josh Miranda Band and I teamed up to open for San Diego's country star Greg White Jr. and his band Desert Edge, along with singer-songwriter Mike Lounibos, to play a kick butt night of country music at the Horton Grand Theatre! Actress Morgan Macedo hosted the event, and together we raised money that will help build a wheelchair accessible home for Marine Sgt. Toran Gaal, who lost both legs when an IED detonated in Afghanistan. Watch video highlights from my set at 'Country at the Grand' below!

The SoundLAB at Disc Makers Features My Song!

Want to hear one of the songs from my new CD before it's officially released? Shhhh....don't tell anyone, but you can hear Countin' Down Summertime on SoundLAB's website! They used my original song to demonstrate the difference the mastering process makes (kind of like adding icing to a cake!). Check out the "before" and "after" samples here.

KSON Write-A-Tune-Tuesday

Since KSON is my hometown country radio station, I was super excited to be a guest on John and Tammy's morning show! The assignment for this Write-A-Tune Tuesday was to write a song on the topic of the heat wave in San Diego, and incorporate some of the lyric ideas that listeners called in with. Watch this video shot in the KSON studio to hear the song I co-wrote with my mom, accompanied by my brother Nick on guitar.

What is your "Natural High"?

Discovering the thing(s) that make you "naturally high" -- your passions, interests, hobbies, etc. -- and then pursuing what you love to do will give you a reason to stay away from drugs and artificial highs. That's the philosophy behind the San Diego-based non-profit organization Natural High, which was founded by Jon Sundt after tragically losing his two brothers to drug abuse. The Natural High program provides free drug prevention tools and resources, celebrity videos, and lesson plans to schools nationwide. I was fortunate to discover my passion to perform when I was only 6 years old, and the natural high I got being on stage -- along with the goal to be successful in the entertainment industry -- gave me a reason to say "no" to drugs. I'm excited to release the official lyric video for the first single from my CD, Anything I Wanna Be. I wrote it during a difficult time in my life when I was working hard at building a career in the entertainment industry and struggling with rejection from Hollywood. Even though your path may involve a different pursuit, I hope this song encourages you to be true to yourself, fight for your dreams, and be Anything You Wanna Be.
